Veľa projektov neskončí dobre, pretože zaň „nikto“ nie je zodpovedný. Nikto je v úvodzovkách, lebo projekty mávajú projektového manažéra, ktorý ale tiež nemusí byť schopný byť zodpovedný. Inokedy naopak pripadá na projekt príliš veľa vedúcich a nepracujúcich kapitánov, a zodpovednosť sa vytratí.
Ako rieši zodpovednosť Scrum?
V Scrume sú dve skupiny ľudí. Tí, ktorí projekt robia a sú zaň plne zodpovední, a všetci ostatní. Pre tieto skupiny sa ustálili označenia kurčatá a prasatá. Pomenovanie vychádza z príbehu:
Kurča a prasa sú pospolu, keď kurča povie, „Otvorme si reštauráciu!“
Prasa nad tým premýšľa a po chvíli sa opýta, „Ako by sme túto reštauráciu nazvali?“
A kurča odpovie, „Šunka s vajíčkom!“
Na to prasa povie, „ To teda nie, ďakujem, ja budem zaangažovaný ale ty sa možno iba zapojíš!“

Tím sú „prasatá“ práce na projekte. Product Owner je „prasa“ produktového backlogu. Scrum Master je „prasa“ procesu. Všetci ostatní sú kurčatá. A kurčatá nemôžu hovoriť prasatám, ako majú prasatá robiť svoju prácu. Prasatá sa zaviazali, že v časovej iterácii dodajú ucelený inkrement softvéru podľa požiadaviek zákazníka, takže idú so svojou kožou na trh. Takto je zodpovednosť jednoznačne určená.

Responsibility for project – Chickens or Pigs?
Many projects end up badly, because there is „nobody“, carrying responsibility. Nobody is in quotation marks, as projects used to have project managers. It does not mean they are always capable to carry responsibility. At another time, there is too many managers and „not working captains“, so responsibility vanish away.
How is it resolved in Scrum?
In Scrum there are two categories of people. Those, who does the work and are fully responsible for it, and everyone else. Both categories got their labels as Chicken and Pigs. The labels originate from a story:
A chicken and a pig are together when the chicken says, “Let’s start a restaurant!”
The pig thinks it over and says, “What would we call this restaurant?”
The chicken says, “Ham n’ Eggs!” The pig says, “No thanks, I’d be committed, but you’d only be involved!”

Team is „pig“ of the project work. Product Owner is „pig“ of Product Backlog. Scrum Master is „pig“ of process. All others are Chickens. And chickens cannot tell pigs, how pigs should do their work. Pigs committed, that during the time frame they will deliver increment of software according requirements of the customer. So they go to sell their meat. In this way the responsibility is fully defined.
